Canids, Castors, Creatives!

Wonderful wildlife, local art, and more!

Coyotes? Coyotes!

IT’S COYOTE TIME!!!! Coyote mating season is in full swing, and the frozen South Branch serves as a highway, playground, and skating rink for our furry friends. Though they can be sighted on the river (and in most other parts of Chicago) year-round, they’re most active and entertaining during late-winter. Though they usually only make the news when they do something naughty, these ubiquitous urban mammals are harmless to their human neighbors the VAST majority of the time.

River Recipes - Get Them Now!

Our buddies at the Artistic Alphabet Mafia and Paleo Paint Pals have put together a WONDERFUL zine full of river-inspired recipes and information on the native plants they use! You can get a copy at any Good Things Vending location - conveniently, there’s one at Off Color, right next to the Wild Mile! Each copy also contains a *fun surprise sticker* designed by a local artist. And if that’s not enough motivation - 10% of the proceeds will go to Urban Rivers! Go check it out!

Funder Feature: Tito’s Handmade Vodka

Through their Love, Tito’s Block to Block program, Tito’s Handmade Vodka has provided essential support for our upcoming Pocket Park! Last year, the Tito’s team joined our River Rangers for a full day of volunteering, putting in some real legwork to clear trash and invasive species from the derelict site of the future park. Tito’s has also supported our Block Party for two years running! Our partnership with their team is an awesome example of multi-pronged support, evolving in real time, and bringing different facets of our community together to physically create new urban greenspaces. Thanks, friends!
